Andrew Cummings, Orchestra Director,

is in his fourteenth year as a music educator and seventh year teaching at Milton High School. He holds a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from Florida State University, where he served as Assistant Conductor to the University Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras. He also led performances with the FSU Chamber Players, New Music Ensemble, and Big Bend Community Orchestra, and he was selected as a conducting fellow at the University of South Carolina’s esteemed Conductors Institute.

 

In his ten-year career as a military musician with Navy Band Southeast and then the 572nd Air National Guard Band, Mr. Cummings performed professionally from Alaska to Cuba, often featured as a soloist. Among his favorite performances were playing on the U.S. Navy float in the Krewe of Bacchus parade at New Orleans Mardi Gras, river barge performances at Fiesta San Antonio, and a featured spot on Panamanian national television’s Tu Mañana morning show. He also performed for military and civilian ceremonies, domestic and foreign dignitaries, troop morale events, and public outreach/recruiting.  Well-versed in musical styles ranging from classical and jazz to pop, rock, and funk, he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from FSU.

 

Mr. Cummings continues to perform as a freelance musician and belongs to the Georgia Music Educators Association. He enjoys mountain biking, reading, and Star Wars and lives in East Cobb with his wife, Allison, and their sons, Martin and Walter.
